Radar Ridge Wind Project
Pacific County, Washington

  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Radar Ridge Wind Project LLC (Radar Ridge LLC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Northwest, submitted a request to Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) for interconnection of up to 82 megawatts of power generated from the proposed Radar Ridge Wind Energy Project (Wind Project) located in Pacific County, Washington into the Federal Columbia River Transmission System (FCRTS). Radar Ridge LLC will independently construct, own, and operate the Wind Project and its associated facilities, including an approximately 3-mile long transmission line to the proposed point of interconnection at BPA's existing Naselle substation. To interconnect the Wind Project into the FCRTS, BPA would expand the existing Naselle substation yard to install a new 230-kilovolt line terminal. BPA also would install new metering and communications equipment inside the existing substation control house.

The proposed Wind Project site is located within the range of the marbled murrelet, a species listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Consequently, Radar Ridge LLC is preparing a habitat conservation plan in support of an application for a permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to incidentally take the marbled murrelet in conjunction with the construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of the Wind Project. The USFWS has determined that an environmental impact statement (EIS) should be prepared under the National Environmental Policy Act as part of the USFWS consideration of the permit application. The USFWS is the lead agency for preparation of the EIS, and BPA will serve as a cooperating agency.

  • CURRENT STATUS:

USFWS and BPA held two open house style scoping meetings in Lacey, WA, and Naselle, WA, on June 15 and 16, 2010 to receive public comments and provide information on the proposed project.

For additional information on the project status, please visit the USFWS project website at: http://www.fws.gov/wafwo.

  • COMMENTS:

The initial scoping comment period is now closed. USFWS accepted public scoping comments on the proposed project through June 28, 2010.
