Central Ferry-Lower Monumental Transmission Line Project
Garfield, Columbia, and Walla Walla Counties, Washington

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 This project is affiliated with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

  • PROJECT PROPOSAL:

BPA will build a new 500-kilovolt (kV) transmission line from BPA's Central Ferry Substation, near the Port of Central Ferry in Garfield County, generally west through Garfield, Columbia, and Walla Walla counties to BPA's Lower Monumental Substation in Walla Walla County. The proposed line is needed to increase the electrical capacity of BPA's transmission system in response to requests for transmission service in this area.

BPA is the lead agency for preparation of the EIS. In furtherance of existing cooperative agreements between BPA and the State of Washington, the Washington Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council also participated in preparation of the EIS. Among other things, this state agency assisted BPA in evaluating and identifying state interests.

  • CURRENT STATUS:

BPA does not have confirmation from its transmission customers as to when their generation projects will require transmission service. As a result, BPA will not begin construction activities on the Central Ferry to Lower Monumental Transmission Line Project in summer 2012. At present, BPA estimates construction could begin as early as spring 2013, depending on the confirmed needs of our transmission customers.
