Includes work performed under contracts solely for transportation of fish. If the full range of hatchery fish culture activities is performed under a contract, use WE#176, Produce Hatchery Fish.
Deliverables (recommended)
  • Transportation of fish
Rules and Examples (work element scenarios and associated rules)
Rule 1: Any ESA, NEPA, permitting, or other environmental compliance work should be split out under WE# 165, Produce Environmental Compliance Documentation. Also, operations and maintenance (O&M) costs should be split out WE# 22, Maintain Vegetation.
Example:

Transport Fish- Transport spring Chinook salmon from hatchery - Transport spring Chinook to point of release or acclimation facility.

Produce Environmental Compliance Documentation - Permits and ESA compliance for transportation of spring Chinook salmon - Obtain local permits and ESA compliance associated with the transportation of spring Chinook.
Rule 2: If the fish transportation activities cover multiple locations, you may lump them under a single work element. However, you may wish to break the work into separate work elements if it provides clarity or better supports project management.
Example:

Option 1 (lumping)

WE: Transport Spring Chinook

WE Title: Transport spring Chinook to acclimation facilities A and B.

Option 2 (splitting)

WE: Transport Fish Spring Chinook
WE Title: Transport spring Chinook to acclimation facility A.

WE: Transport Spring Chinook
WE Title: Transport spring Chinook to acclimation facility B.
Rule 3: If transporting more than one species, you must use separate Work Elements for each species, since the metrics for each species need to be reported separately.
Example:

WE: Transport Fish
WE Title: Transport spring Chinook from hatchery to acclimation facility.

WE: Transport Fish
WE Title: Transport fall Chinook from hatchery to acclimation facility.
Milestones (may include)

  • Purpose of production program
  • Number of fish transported by species
