You will utilize the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) Tag Distribution System (TDS) web application (www.ptagis.org/tpw/login.htm) to provide the number of tags requested and the month the tags will be needed. Once your COTR has reviewed and approved your tag request, you will be notified by TDS auto-generated email. Specification of tag recipients (by project personnel) and distribution of approved requests (by PSMFC) will likewise be made through the TDS application, as outlined in more detail below. Please complete your initial tag requests by September 30 for the upcoming fiscal year (but no later than two weeks before requested delivery date). If later in the year you need to make adjustments to your order, please contact your COTR and/or the BPA PIT Tag Coordinator (information below) as well as making the necessary changes in TDS.

New to PIT Tag Requests?

If your project has not previously requested tags, please contact your project’s COTR and/or the PIT Tag Coordinator (Sharon Grant, 503-230-5215) to set up your request. The project can then be added into TDS and each new point of contact will be given a login and password to the system.

PIT Tag Distribution Process Overview

Step 1. Tag Request Invitation: You will receive an email in late August requesting that you input your tag orders by the end of September for the coming fiscal year (October through September). Until you receive this invitation, the system will not let you place orders for the next fiscal year as only one fiscal year is activated at a time.

Step 2. Enter the Tag Distribution System and log into the TDS application with your PTAGIS user information (Don’t have a login? See “New to PIT Tag requests” above). Once logged into TDS, select your project and enter the number of tags requested by delivery month. Distribution information may be entered at this point or after requests have been approved (see Step 4 below).

Tag Distribution System

Step 3. Once your tag request has been approved by your COTR, you will be notified by a TDS auto-generated email.

Step 4. Distribution of tags: Complete distribution recipient information online using the TDS application. To enter distribution information, click the green “Distribute” tab for your project in TDS. Next, click on a requested quantity and enter recipient information at the top right (multiple delivery locations permitted). Each request will require the entry of its own distribution information. For detailed instructions, see the TDS user manual (pages 16-23).

What you need to do

If you need to request tags for the coming fiscal year, but do not have distribution information ready, please complete step 2 at this time.

If you need to request tags for the coming fiscal year, and have distribution information ready, please complete Step 2 and Step 4 at this time.

If you will not be requesting tags for the coming fiscal year, log into the TDS application and check the box at the bottom stating, “This project requires no additional tags,” applicable to the current fiscal year only.

If for the foreseeable future, your project will not be using PIT tags, please contact the PIT Tag Coordinator to remove your project from the active list.
