Land Acquisitions
The development of the
Federal Columbia River Power System (FRCPS) has provided many benefits including low cost, clean hydroelectricity, flood control, increased agricultural opportunity through irrigation to name just a few. The fish and wildlife populations of the Columbia River Basin have been impacted by the development of the FCRPS. The federal actions agencies responsible for operating the system have a responsibility to mitigate for these impacts.
Purchasing land is an effective way to protect habitat. The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) has a strong record of building strategic partnerships; acquiring land and managing it for the benefit of fish and wildlife populations impacted by the development of the FCRPS.
The following factsheets are a sample of the work that BPA is committed to doing throughout the Columbia Basin. These stories demonstrate how collaborative relationships have been developed to achieve lasting habitat protection and restoration. These projects result in measureable benefits for the fish and wildlife populations that depend on them and for the current and future generations that value the environmental stewardship BPA provides.
